World Autism Awareness Day Series of Activities

April 2, 2024 marks the 17th World Autism Awareness Day. To widely disseminate scientific knowledge and awareness about autism, promote public understanding, acceptance, respect, and inclusion of individuals with autism, foster a social atmosphere of “equality, respect, and care” for supporting people with disabilities, and help children with autism step out of their homes and institutions to integrate into society, the Center organized a series of public welfare activities from April 1 to April 2.

Charity Haircuts: Walking with Love

The first initiative in this series is the Charity Haircut event.

On the afternoon of April 1st, volunteers from Nanchang Qingyunpu District's Bairun Children's Behavioral Rehabilitation Training Center and Lingling's Promise Beauty Salon joined hands to host a charity haircut event, allowing children to feel the warmth of society's care!

During the event, children lined up orderly under their teachers' guidance, awaiting their haircuts.

Simultaneously, teachers used this natural setting for engaging lessons, allowing children to receive stylish cuts meticulously designed by “Tony the stylist” while deepening their understanding of everyday hair care knowledge through hands-on experience.

Highlights of the Event

Community Outreach: Call for Attention

On the morning of World Autism Awareness Day, center staff split into two teams. Carrying promotional materials, they visited Badashanren Square in Qingyunpu District and Zhonglou Square in Nanchang County to provide the public with educational outreach on autism and health consultations. The initiative aimed to enhance public awareness and concern for autism, urging society to pay attention to and understand individuals with autism. It emphasized the importance of developing support services and care systems for autism, helping children with autism realize their aspirations to share the same blue skies and grow together.

Parent-Child Movie Viewing: Inclusive Education

On the afternoon of April 2nd, the center also organized a parent-child movie viewing event, where parents brought their children to the cinema to watch the newly released Kung Fu Panda 4.

In a theater filled with “familiar faces,” parents could feel more at ease, free from worries that their children might disturb others. They also witnessed unexpected growth in their children.

Stepping out of the home, out of the institution, and into society—a simple movie outing becomes a rare practical opportunity for children. We hope these small yet meaningful experiences plant seeds of “social adaptability” in their hearts. Through the nurturing of “intervention training,” these seeds may grow into the mighty tree of “social integration.”

Movie Time at the Theater

Staff members from the center took on the role of ushers, guiding children through the entire movie-going experience—from check-in and ticket verification to tying on blue ribbons. The center also provided popcorn, soda, and snacks for the children.
