The Party and government have consistently attached great importance to the advancement of disability-related causes. General Secretary Xi Jinping has emphasized that special care and attention must be given to persons with disabilities. High-quality development, as the central theme of economic and social progress during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, guides every segment of society toward shared prosperity.
April 2, 2022, marks the 15th World Autism Awareness Day. Let us focus on this community, share love and warmth, and help them move toward a brighter future.
Bairun Charity Event
In observance of World Autism Awareness Day and in compliance with current pandemic prevention policies, the center hosted an online charity livestream event. We hope to raise awareness and encourage greater attention to this community.
What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?
At the beginning of the livestream, the center introduced autism through a video:
Autism is a relatively severe developmental disorder. It is a congenital mental disorder unrelated to parenting practices. The core symptoms of classic autism are known as the “triad of impairments,” primarily manifesting as fundamental deficits in three areas: social interaction and communication skills, language abilities, and ritualistic, repetitive behaviors. Its main symptoms include:
1. Social communication impairment: Typically manifested as a lack of communication with others or communication skills, and a lack of secure attachment with parents;
2. Verbal communication impairment: Delayed language development, or regression in language after normal development, or language lacking communicative intent;
3. Repetitive and stereotyped behaviors.
ABLLS-R
After briefly introducing what autism is, Teacher Xu from the center began explaining the ABLLS-R assessment tool used at the center.
ABLLS-R features detailed and comprehensive assessment items. This assessment tool comes with a unique skill tracking system, making it easier to observe and record a child's progress in mastering various skills while providing detailed teaching plans.
Currently, the center has integrated ABLLS-R into practical teaching. This not only empowers intervention teachers to work more effectively during instruction but also provides clear teaching guidance that addresses the core issue of slow progress in children. It significantly enhances teaching efficiency while accelerating the pace at which children learn new skills.
Inclusive Education
The “14th Five-Year Plan for Enhancing Special Education Development” states that we should accelerate the improvement of the special education system with appropriate inclusion as the goal, continuously refine the special education support mechanisms, comprehensively enhance the quality of special education, foster self-respect, confidence, self-reliance, and independence among children and adolescents with disabilities, enable their maximum potential development, and strive to nurture them into valuable talents for the nation.
Our center has been reflecting on and working diligently to help children achieve true inclusion.

During the livestream, Teacher Liu from the center introduced the topic by posing the question, “What is true inclusion?” prompting reflection among participants. She then elaborated on the significance of inclusive education and analyzed its current state.
Whether it's low societal acceptance, a lack of resources, teachers, and resource rooms in mainstream schools, or the shortage of specialized knowledge among mainstream teachers to support children with disabilities—these are all pressing issues that require concerted efforts from all sectors of society.
Peer Blessings
After the serious discussion concluded, what met the eye were the children's innocent smiles, and what filled the air were their heartfelt blessings.

Though the children may not fully understand “autism,” their heartfelt drawings, their desire to share the joy of painting with the “star children,” and their simple yet deeply sincere words all stem from the truest emotions of their hearts. A wave of warmth surged through us.
Charity Sale
The final segment of the livestream featured a charity sale of artwork handcrafted by children with autism and their families.
All proceeds from this sale will be exclusively allocated to activities for the children at the center. Detailed financial records will be maintained to ensure fairness, transparency, and impartiality.

Host introduces the artwork
Let's admire the children's heartfelt paintings.
“Bottling Spring” ‘Lollipop’ “Hello Spring”
“Spring Blooms” “Ice Cream” “Protecting My Growth”

“Bottling Spring” and “Spring in Full Bloom” both showcase children's clever use of fallen leaves and petals collected from spring flower beds and trees for collage art. Yet the resulting effects are strikingly different, revealing thoughtful effort. Though simple, each piece radiates a distinct charm of spring.

Both" Lollipops" and" Protect My Growth" explore familial bonds. In the former piece, five lollipops form a circle, symbolizing the sweet yet unbreakable ties of kinship that bind a family together. The latter work conveys a child's trust in his mother—her hand radiates warmth, serving as his steadfast support.
"Hello Spring" and" Little Sea Creatures" both exude a natural charm. The former features simple flowers and buzzing bees, blending movement with stillness and stillness with movement—harmonious and delightful. The latter depicts marine animals swimming carefree in the ocean, surrounded by colorful bubbles in a dreamlike scene, showcasing the child's rich imagination.
From “Ice Cream,” it's clear that the young author must love ice cream very much to have captured its appearance so vividly on paper.

"Little Sea Creatures" "This Way You Can Drink Water Too" " A Wonderful Day"

"Destroy the Virus"
In “This Way You Can Drink Water Too,” one can't help but recall childhood confusion over the story of the crow drinking water. Indeed, why couldn't the crow use a convenient straw to drink?
“A Wonderful Day” features everyday objects—the sun, trees, flowers, kites... Though utterly ordinary, these everyday objects radiate a warmth found only in daily life. After all, amid the current pandemic, such ordinary moments feel precious.
The final piece, “Destroy the Virus,” reveals a child's deep hatred for the COVID-19 virus—the culprit forcing him to stay locked indoors. Look at that green virus, its eyes bloodshot from being struck. The young artist's fury practically leaps off the page.
Closing Remarks
During the livestream, the generosity of our supporters exceeded our expectations. Most of the artworks have been sold, and we are truly grateful.
As previously mentioned, all proceeds from the charity sale and livestream will be dedicated to the children at our center.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who tuned in to the livestream. We believe change happens in the most unexpected moments.
Caring for individuals with autism—the nation is taking action, society is taking action, and we are taking action.
