Bairun Education Supports Public Welfare Training
Igniting the Flame of Hope for Inclusive Education
Shadow Teacher Public Service Training

Shadow teachers, also known as assistant teachers or resource teachers, are professionals who specialize in helping children with special needs adapt to school life in mainstream schools. They are so named because they accompany the children wherever they go. The China Disabled Persons’ Federation and six other government departments jointly issued the “Implementation Plan for the Action to Promote Care for Children with Autism (2024–2028),” which emphasizes the need to actively explore scientifically sound and appropriate educational approaches for children with autism and to gradually establish a system of teaching assistants to support their better integration into school life.
Recently, the “Inclusive Care, Professional Support” public welfare training program for shadow teachers in Jiangxi Province successfully concluded. Jointly organized by the Ganzhou Municipal Federation of Disabled Persons, the Jiangxi Association of Persons with Mental Disabilities and Their Families, and the Jiangxi Association of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and Their Families, and co-hosted by Ganzhou Teachers College and Bairun Education, the training aimed to enhance the capabilities of shadow teachers working with children with special educational needs and to promote the high-quality development of inclusive education.

As a bridge enabling children with special educational needs to enter mainstream schools and integrate into the classroom community, the professional competence and skill level of shadow teachers directly determine whether these children can truly integrate into the school environment and transition into society. This public training program focused on enhancing practical skills. Three industry experts were invited to provide detailed explanations on practical challenges, including the foundational theories of inclusive education, the role and scope of responsibilities of shadow teachers, strategies for supporting social skills, student assessment and IEP development, as well as behavioral support and management strategies, offering participants a toolkit of practical solutions.

As a co-organizer of this charitable training program, Bairun Education has consistently upheld the philosophy of “Inclusion with Love, Professional Guidance,” actively engaging in charitable causes and contributing to the education of children with special needs. Throughout the training, Bairun Education leveraged its professional expertise to assist the organizers in meticulously planning the curriculum and dispatched senior experts to deliver the courses, ensuring the highest quality of training. Additionally, Bairun Education provided participants with extensive learning materials and practical opportunities to help them better master the necessary professional knowledge and skills.

Liu Dan, Vice Principal of Bairun, stated: “Through this public welfare training program, we aim to enhance the professional competence and skills of shadow teachers, thereby providing more professional and high-quality support services for children with special educational needs. In the future, Bairun Education will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders to build platforms, expand the shadow teacher workforce, ensure that professional support reaches every regular classroom, and contribute to the high-quality development of inclusive education.”

Mr. Hu, a parent who attended the training, has a child just over five years old who has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. He has long wanted his child to attend an inclusive preschool. Mr. Hu believes that this free training not only provided shadow teachers with a valuable learning opportunity but also brought about profound changes for parents. He realized that for his child to integrate successfully, it is essential to help the child develop the necessary skills and abilities. After attending the training, he feels much clearer about the process and has a stronger sense of direction and purpose; he no longer feels constantly anxious.
Mr. Hu also shared his thoughts: “It gives me great comfort to see my child gradually integrating into school life with the support of a shadow teacher. This charitable training program has not only enhanced the professional skills of the shadow teachers but has also given us parents a deeper understanding of and greater confidence in inclusive education. I would like to thank the organizers and co-organizers for their hard work in lighting a beacon of hope for children with special educational needs.”

A teacher from the Yingtan region who participated in the training said, “Through this training, I have gained a clearer understanding of the role and responsibilities of a shadow teacher, and I have acquired more practical communication skills and behavioral support strategies. This knowledge and these skills will help me better support children with special educational needs in my future work and enable them to integrate more effectively into school life.”

The success of this public welfare training program would not have been possible without the joint efforts of all parties involved. The strong support from the Ganzhou Disabled Persons’ Federation, the Jiangxi Association of Persons with Mental Disabilities and Their Families, and the Jiangxi Association of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and Their Families, combined with the meticulous organization by Ganzhou Teachers College and the professional assistance from Bairun Education, has collectively infused new vitality into the educational endeavors for children with special needs.
In the future, Bairun Education will continue to collaborate with various partners, remain committed to the growth and development of children with special educational needs, uphold its original mission of public service through professional expertise, and contribute even more to the cause of inclusive education.
