Injecting Professional Expertise into Families of Children with Autism and Special Education Teams Through ABA Integrated with ACT

Zhang LiMei, Dual-Certified in the U.S.

In July 2026, Bairun Education was honored to invite Ms. Zhang LiMei, a behavior analyst with dual BCBA/LBA certifications from the United States, to Nanchang for a two-day professional development program. From public welfare parent workshops to frontline teacher training, and on to one-on-one pro bono assessments for children, Ms.Zhang LiMei, drew upon her deep academic background and hands-on practical experience to provide evidence-based, actionable intervention strategies and psychological support to families of children with autism, as well as special education teachers and students, offering comprehensive support for the growth of children with special needs.

Ms. Zhang LiMei, holds three master’s degrees in literature, accounting, and special education, and is dual-certified as a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) and LBA in the United States. She has dedicated many years to the field of special education. She is the author of two professional monographs, STEPPING INTO THE WORLD OF ASD and  APPROACHING ADHD, and has translated and published Erez Figlash’s seminal work, The FERRARI BRAINS WITH BICYCLE BRAKES. She has developed a well-established theoretical framework and accumulated extensive practical experience in the fields of autism and ADHD intervention, as well as family psychological support.

FFirst Day of the Public Welfare Class

Addressing Parenting Challenges Head-On and Easing Anxiety About Interventions.

On the first day of the event, Ms. Zhang LiMei led a free training session for parents of children with autism. Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a starting point and combining it with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), she delivered a practical workshop that addressed both intervention methods and psychological adjustment.

The value of ACT in the field of special education has been confirmed by extensive evidence-based research: a randomized controlled trial involving 137 parents of children with neurodevelopmental disorders showed that ACT intervention significantly reduced parental cognitive rigidity and parenting stress, while improving children’s prosocial behavior and helping parents enhance their psychological flexibility and self-efficacy.

During the class,Ms. Zhang LiMei began with an interactive exercise titled “Discover Your Strengths,” using a hands-on experience to help parents understand the universality of individual differences. Drawing on numerous real-life intervention cases, she explained emotional regulation methods in a clear and accessible way, guiding parents to avoid the pitfall of overly anxious parenting. During the Q&A session, she provided precise, actionable advice tailored to each parent’s specific concerns, creating a warm and enriching atmosphere in the room.

Aligned in philosophy

ACT Has Long Been Integrated into Bairun’s Daily Teaching

In fact, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is not making its first appearance in Bairun’s classrooms. For a long time, Bairun Education has consistently adhered to the principles of evidence-based intervention, deeply integrating ACT into its daily ABA teaching system, advocating for intervention practices that affirm neurodiversity, and creating an empathetic, child-centered rehabilitation environment.

When faced with children’s resistance, behavioral issues, and reluctance to learn, Bairun’s teaching team applies core ACT techniques—such as positive language guidance and mindfulness regulation—to help children accept their emotions, adjust their state of mind, and gradually establish positive behavioral patterns.Ms. Zhang LiMei’s special presentation not only serves as professional validation of Bairun’s existing teaching system but also provides frontline educators with a wealth of practical methods and ideas for optimization.

Mutual Empowerment the Following Day

Teacher Professional Development + Targeted Free Medical Consultations

The second day’s program was divided into two main sections: specialized training for teachers and free individual consultations for children, balancing the need to enhance the team’s professional capabilities with the practical intervention needs of families.

During the morning session dedicated to special education teachers, Ms. Zhang LiMei delivered a systematic presentation on the practical application of ACT in special education settings, breaking down the topic layer by layer—from the underlying theoretical framework to practical classroom methods. Ample time was set aside for a Q&A session, during which she addressed each of the real challenges teachers face in their daily teaching one by one, helping the team implement ACT principles more precisely in the details of their instruction and provide the children with more professional and compassionate intervention support.

During the afternoon’s one-on-one free consultation session,Ms. Zhang LiMei conducted face-to-face case assessments for seven children with special needs. Drawing on her many years of frontline experience, she accurately identified the core issues facing each child and helped parents clarify the direction of intervention.

Ms. Zhang LiMei conducted one-on-one pro bono consultations for the families of seven children with special needs, addressing multiple disabilities including ASD, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, speech and language disorders, reading and writing difficulties, and Asperger’s syndrome. Drawing on her solid professional foundation and extensive clinical experience, she accurately identified the core challenges in each case, gently alleviated the parents’ anxiety and feelings of helplessness, and tailored intervention plans and key points for home care for each family.

Precise diagnoses and clear intervention plans dispelled the confusion surrounding intervention for the families present, providing a more focused direction for their rehabilitation journey and helping them avoid unnecessary detours.
