The Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional holiday celebrating reunion and joy. Time-honoured folk customs such as moon-gazing, lantern-making and praying for blessings have been passed down through generations, endowing this festive occasion with soft, heart-warming rituals.

Making lion-dance lanterns is a distinctive folk experience for Mid-Autumn. The lion dance symbolizes good fortune and safety, while lanterns stand for family completeness. In ancient times, people carried lanterns to pray for blessings at Mid‑Autumn, wishing for peace year after year. This heart‑warming folk tradition lives on to this day.

To immerse participants in the Mid‑Autumn atmosphere, help them learn about traditional folk customs and unwind from busy daily routines, our centre hosted the “Full Moon, Bright Lanterns, Reunited Families” Lion‑Dance Lantern DIY Activity in the first‑floor music classroom, capturing the warmth of Mid‑Autumn through handicraft creation.

The venue was filled with a cosy vibe. Parents focused calmly on their creative work. Everyone carefully cut, assembled and decorated to craft their one‑of‑a‑kind lion‑dance lanterns. Stepping away from daily hustle and bustle, they savored relaxing, therapeutic festive leisure time amid slow‑paced hand‑making.

One delicate, lively lion‑dance lantern after another took shape, casting soft warm light across the classroom. Each hand‑crafted lantern embodied unique heartfelt wishes for reunion and happiness, perfectly echoing the tender theme “Full Moon, Bright Lanterns, Reunited Families”.

Meanwhile, Bairun’s special‑education team for inclusive classes at Nanchang No.28 High School Qingyun Campus guided students from special‑education classes in traditional Mid‑Autumn handicrafts for the festival. Parents and children from No.28 High School worked side‑by‑side in perfect coordination. They not only made exquisite lion‑dance lanterns but also prepared tasty snow‑skin mooncakes. Teachers guided parents and children to roll dough and wrap fillings. Through this hands‑on cultural experience, children gained insight into the charm of Mid‑Autumn folk customs.

Lanterns pass on warmth; companionship conveys affection. This soothing handicraft experience allowed participants to truly appreciate the appeal of Mid‑Autumn folk traditions. It also fostered connections among families served by our centre. Within this laid‑back creative setting, parents let go of stress, eased their moods and deeply experienced the warmth of the festival and the true meaning of family reunion.

On this bright Mid‑Autumn night lit by welcoming lanterns, the most precious festive joy lies in being together day in and day out. May this gentle Mid‑Autumn warmth shelter every family: may we witness full moons and peace year after year, with blessings always near.
